18 Philippine Showbiz Today December 8 - 21, 2018 SHOWBITZSHOWBITZSHOWBITZSHOWBITZSHOWBITZSHOWBITZ Bela Padilla’s Pia Wurtzbach Vice Ganda’s new role? As a wows in Oliver It’s Showtime comedian! embarrassing Tolentino As part of this year’s Metro Famous fashion designers Manila Film Festival entry “Fantas- from every country used Thai moment tica,” Bela Padilla said she could Silk to create their collection. The not believe she is now part of one of the biggest movies of the year which is headlined by Vice Gan- da. “Hindi pa nga nag-si-sink in sa akin ‘yun (laughs) Actually nung sinabi naman nila na movie ni Vice, sabi ko kagad go. Actually, hindi na ako nagtanong kung anong gagawin. Tapos wala naman silang mabi- gay na script kasi hindi pa tapos nun. So wala din ako mabasa na parang ito ang character ko. So I blindly said yes pero I’m hap- py I did it because I had fun on the set. Parang kuwela lang talaga siya,” she explained. “Fantastica” may not be her first entry in the MMFF, but it is her first comedic role. “I did ‘10,000’ (Hours) a couple of years ago. Sobrang heavy nun. Political drama ang theme niya tapos bi- glang nag-comedy ako ng todo. Ang ganda kasi nga I feel like I’m at a point in my life right now where I want to experiment with things and that’s what’s happen- ing. I’m accepting roles right now na I never thought I would. It’s my first time to do a pure comedy so don’t expect (laughs). Pero ginu- ide naman ako. Lahat halos ng scenes ko nak- abantay sila tapos pag meron sila naisip na gusto nila idagdag pa, so mas naing funny yung scenes. Pero ang sarap. It’s nice to get out of your comfort zone once in a while so that’s what happened to me here,” she said. Working with Vice was also a learning experience for Bela who admires the comedian’s talent. “I’m very thankful kasi madami akong eksena na wala siya. Na- kikita ko ‘yung difference pag nandun siya. Meron siyang naiisip talaga na hindi naiisip ng normal na tao. Parang may pinapagawa siyang movements na siya lang ang nakakakita sa set. Ang gal- ing. It’s nice to observe people like that din,” she added. Bela also shared how collab- Philippines’ Oliver Tolentino and 2015 Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach won a lot of raves and were given standing ovations on the ramp. Pia was very proud of Oliver and the other Pinoy designers. “Maraming salamat sa lahat ng kababayan natin na nandito ngayon, pati ang mga kaibigan natin na Thai na sumuporta at nanuod sa mga gawa ni Oliver Tolentino,” she said, “Sobrang nakaka proud, kasi talagang world renowned ang isang Oliver Tolentino, and I’m so grateful he helped me during my time in Miss Universe. If you still remember, he’s the one who created my red gown for the preliminary compe- tition, so ito ang parang pasasal- amat ko sa kanya.” Pia could not help but re- member her own Miss Universe journey, reminding the candidates to keep their cameras handy. “Take lots of pictures and get everybody’s number so you can keep in touch at namnamin niyo and make the most of your time at Miss Universe,” she said. For Catriona, Pia has nothing but positive things to say. “Kayang kaya niya ‘yan. Ta- lagang inaabangan ng lahat at sobrang ganda, sobrang talino at sobrang galing [siya]. I’m also ex- cited for her,” she related. Meanwhile, Tolentino said he’s happy with the success of his show.● orative Vice can be with his co- actors. “Definitely. Parang Vice also asks if you’re comfortable first or if you’re offended before he’ll let you do a scene. parang may ganun siyang alaga. So pa- rang tatanungin ka muna niya na, ‘Okay lang ba sa ‘yo nagawin ito? Kasi kung hindi iba ang gagawin natin.’ So ang galing. Halos lahat naman kami unang tanong pa lang pumapayag na lahat kami kasi laugh trip talaga yung mga pinapagawa niya,” she revealed.● Vice Ganda had the entire “It’s Showtime” studio cringing from second-hand embarrass- ment on Tuesday as he recalled an encounter with music icon Jose Mari Chan. The “Fantastica” star shared the anecdote during the “Tawag ng Tanghalan” segment, after an audience member’s performance reminded him of the Christmas tunes popularized by Chan. According to Vice Ganda, his awkward moment with Chan happened during the 2014 wed- ding reception of “It’s Showtime” co-host Karylle and her now-hus- band, singer Yael Yuzon. At the time, Vice Ganda said he went to the restroom with a close friend. Having finished ahead, the comedian waited for his friend before heading back out to the party. Alone in the restroom, Vice Ganda concluded that one of the closed toilet cubicles was being used by his friend. Growing impa- tient, he banged on the door and got no answer. He then decided to play a prank on his friend, by splashing water through the open- ing beneath the door. When the occupant of the cubicle opened the door, it turned out to be Chan, not his friend, who had apparently gone out ahead. “Gusto kong lumubog sa lupa at mamatay na lang,” Vice Ganda recalled, as his co-hosts Anne Curtis and Mariel Padilla covered their mouths listening to the cringe-worthy story. The prank wet Chan’s trou- sers, Vice Ganda said. He did not mention how they parted after the embarrassing exchange, but did say, in jest, that he has personally pledged to make up for the mis- take every Christmas season. “Siyempre, respetado ‘yon… Kaya talaga, tuwing Pasko, ako ang unang nagpapatugtog ng mga kanta niya, bilang pagbibi- gay-galang,” he said.● Edward thrilled for Maymay After Maymay Entrata’s suc- cessful stint as a model at Arab Fashion Week last November 21, her screen partner Edward Barber pens an emotional mes- sage for the young actress.  “You’re a star. An absolute star. I know this is long overdue but you shouldn’t forget this: Nag- dala ka ng karangalan sa ating bansa at ipinakita mo sa mga tao kung paano yakapin ang totoong pagkatao nila,” Ed- ward began his Instagram post. He then added how proud he is of Maymay and how fortunate it is to be able to be by her side on her journey to stardom.  “You’re an inspiration to many, not just me. It’s an absolute pleasure to share this journey with you. You went into PBB as a girl with a dream, just a girl looking at the stars. Eventually you became one of them. And after Dubai... you’re shining brighter than any star in the sky. I’m happy I get to be the moon who gets to watch you from afar.”    In another post, Edward also shared photos of their show in Dubai. The teen actor thanked all those who went to see them es- pecially the Filipino workers in the Middle East.   “Dubai was a dream. So thankful and blessed to have been able to perform and witness the happiness and smiles of all the OFWs there. If there is one thing I will never get tired of, it is the genuine, pure smile of someone I have never met but have had the pleasure of being able to make happy, albeit in a small way. To God be all the glory, this isn’t our success but His,” he said.● It pays to advertise… Call 604-588-6397 or email info@ philippinenewstoday.com SHOWBITZSHOWBITZSHOWBITZSHOWBITZSHOWBITZSHOWBITZ
