Philippine Showbiz Today May 22 - June 7, 2018 Jan. 22-Feb.7, 2015 13 What’s it like for Dingdong and Anne to work again after twenty years? Anne Curtis calls herself a chuwariwap – a second-tier character  –  when she and Ding- dong Dantes worked in a teen series twenty years ago. Now, they are both big-name stars  –  successful in and out the cameras. They reunite on the big screen in “Sid & Aya (Not A Love Story).”  Dingdong and Anne are thrilled. The challenge to sink their teeth into flawed characters on the big screen was a big motivation. Sharing the scene with someone who keeps you on your toes is an added treat. As Anne said, “Working with a great actor, you have no choice but to step up your game.” “Sid and Aya” was conceptual- ized four years ago by director Irene Villamor (“Meet Me in St. Gallen” and “Camp Sawi”).  “It’s a play on words,” writer-di- rector Irene Villamor explained the names of the leads of her new movie, “Sid & Aya.”  “Pareho kasi silang mandaraya,” she added. It was one of those ideas that percolated and lived in her mind – and heart – that quickly won over her stars – Dingdong and Anne. In the story, Dingdong is Sid, an insomniac who asks the mysterious For Anne, shooting with a Red camera at the Shibuya Crossing in Tokyo, Japan was a feat. “Mahirap ‘yun. Money shot talaga,” she said.  All the locations, hindi typical. It’s visually pleasing to the eye. Japan in general is a lot of fun, smooth-sail- ing lahat “Hindi ko kasi pwedeng ikwento [pero] may napakagandang nangyari sa tailend part dun. It’s my favorite,” she added. ● - Malaya It pays to advertise… Call Sid, played by Anne, to spend time with him during his long, sleepless and empty evenings. The film’s tagline – “Not a love story” – is as intriguing as Anne and Dingdong’s first major big screen pairing. But Villamor refused to ex- pound on the story – as she does not want to spoil it for the viewers.  “Medyo mahirap syang sagutin kasi ‘yung sagot pag napanood nyo [malalaman],” said Villamor. “Basta sabi ni Sid hindi lahat ng may I love you, love story.”  Just like her previous works, “Camp Sawi” and “Meet Me In St. Gallen,” “Sid and Aya”  is shot amidst a beautiful backdrop – this time in the Land of the Rising Sun. It was a skeletal crew that flew to Japan with Direk Irene and the two leads. The experience was something, said the actors, who share a love for Japan. “Nakakatuwa na iilan lang kami. It was a skeletal team pero nabuo naming yung limang araw sa Japan. Napakagaan nung shoot,” Dingdong said. DEDICATED TO CANADIANS. TRUSTED BY CANADIANS. Thank you for your continued trust in us.
