CEBU CITY. — Despite being
stricken by gastritis on the eve of her
sport, former Palarong Pambansa
standout Nicole Marie Pamintuan
sustained her perfect run in the PSC-
Philippine National Games swimming
competitions on Tuesday, adding her
fourth gold medal at the Cebu City
Sports Center pool here.
Carrying the colors of Sta. Rosa
Laguna, Pamintuan, who swept all
of her six events in the 2017 edition
of the Palaro in San Jose, Antique,
easily annexed the girls 16-year-old
and over 100-meter backstroke title
in a time of one minute and 9.81
seconds for her fourth consecutive
victory.
She finished more than 12
seconds ahead of runner-up Andrea
Marie Punay of General Santos City
(1:21.70) while Iligan City’s Miles
Dorothy Valdez (1:23.68) settled for
the bronze in the games organized
by the Philippine Sports Commission
and supported by the Cebu City led
by Mayor Tomas Osmena.
Sharing the spotlight with
Pamintuan was General Santos City’s
Camilo Russell Owen La Torre and
Las Pinas City’s David Franco dela
Rosa, who emerged from the pool
with their third straight gold medals
each in the sports showcase serving
as a proving ground for members as
well as aspirants to the national pool
of athletes.
Although based in Metro Manila,
La Torre proudly bannered the
hometown of his parents in topping
the boys’ 16-over 400-meter freestyle
(4:28.49) while Dela Rosa secured

title in 27.44 seconds.

Claire Jaudian, also copped her third
gold in winning the girls 16-over 400-
meter freestyle race (5:01), raising
her collection to four, including the
bronze medal she got in the 200-
meter individual medley race.
“Masaya po ako kasi di ko
akalain na makapag-gold par rin
ako dito because I had gastritis last
Saturday. I thought I wouldn’t be able
to compete, but my parents told me
to just go out there and do my best,”
said Pamintuan, an incoming Grade
12 student at La Salle who will gun for
her fifth gold medal on Wednesday
in the 200-meter backstroke
