Their Finest (PG) ***
It’s A Wrap!
It’s all hands on deck. Cleverly crafted The Finest perfectly
embodies the British spirit.
Backed up by some steadfast performances, this rather inspiring
dry comedy romance from Elevation Pictures accomplishes quite a
lot. Prepare to witness an interesting unconventional love story holding
court at the Fifth Avenue Cinemas and perhaps some other fortunate
Cineplex Auditoriums around B.C.
Love can come in all sorts of different ways. War can out a crimp in
some relationships. Quite understanding the second big war is taking
in the up and coming Catrin Cole. Trusted is the work put forth by
James Bond actress Gemma Arterton who leaves the glamour of the
007 world for the rather precarious life of living day by day under the
London Blitz. Besides having a husband on the mend to make ends
meet, she takes a job working on a movie.
Under the uneven Rutland of a man named Buckley, the two
become immersed not only in a rally ‘round the troops boys kind of
propaganda film but a potentially troubling slow simmering romantic
liaison that most may find rather a bit too obtuse.
Still the drama and comedy and romance blend well here. It’s fun
to watch how the making of a film within a film comes to fruition as
well as seeing Bill Nighy slam dunk his portrayal of an all-over-himself
thespian.
Perfect British humour is in tap in this quaint little movie that truly
is an inspirational charmer.●
