Ai-Ai delas Alas wins in New York film festival
Ai-Ai delas Alas bested three other nominees , including the daughter of legendary actor Robert Redford , to win Best Female Actor in the just concluded 7th Queens World Film Festival in New York on Sunday .
Best known for her comedic performances in films to TV , the 52-year-old entertainer won for her dramatic portrayal of an aging prostitute in Louie Ignacio ’ s indie drama , “ Area .” In 2016 , the film won the Special Jury Prize at the Eurasia International Film Festival in Almary , Kazakhstan .
She was nominated alongside Germany ’ s Karin Hanczewsk in “ Lotte ,” Dorothea Hagena in “ Mann Im Spagat : Pace , Cowboy , Pace ” and American actress Amy Redford , daughter of Robert Redford , the popular actor and founder of the Sundance International Film Festival .
Ai-Ai has also been honored with several acting recognitions for her funny performances in “ Ang Cute ng Ina Mo ” and “ Ang Tanging Ina Mo : Last na ‘ to .” The Queens festival award , however , is her first award in an international film festival and her first for a dramatic role .
“ Area ,” however , is not Ai- Ai ’ s first foray in drama and indie films . In 2014 , she headlined “ Ronda ,” an entry in the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival which netted her a Best Actress nomination from the Gawad Urian .
The “ U . S . tour ” of “ Area ” is far from over as the film was also invited at the 41st Cleveland International Film Festival from March 29 to April 9 to be
followed by a screening at the at the 15th Boston International Film Festival scheduled from April 13 to 17 .
Afterwards , “ Area ” will be headed to the West Coast as part of the 50th Worldfest Houston International Film Festival in Texas , from April 21 to 30 . ●

Gerald Anderson turned emotional as he crossed the finish line of the Los Angeles Marathon in Santa Monica , California on Monday ( Manila time ).
Anderson was the Philippines ’ representative to the 42-kilometer run organized by Skechers , a brand which the actor endorses .
In a series of posts on Instagram , Anderson ’ s Star Magic handler Nhila Mallari captured the actor ’ s proud moment while wearing a finisher ’ s medal .
“ First timer Gerald Anderson finished the BIG 42K Skechers LA Marathon . Reached the finished line victoriously and kind of emotional ,” she wrote in the caption .

a proud moment . You made it ,” she added .
Mallari said Anderson recorded an unofficial time of 4:25:02 for the whole run .
Meanwhile , the actor described the LA Marathon as “ one of the most challenging experiences in my life .”
“ There were moments where I asked myself if I can finish this race , but what pushed me was the love from the fans and my team who supported and trained with me since arriving in Los Angeles ,” he said .
Anderson said he feels privileged to have represented the Philippines in the run . “ I learned so much on this experience ,” he said . ● - ABS-CBN
Beauty Gonzalez shares love advice for friend Ellen
“ Pray for it .”
That is the best love advice Beauty Gonzalez could give her good friend , Ellen Adarna , who recently broke up with the youngest son of the President , Sebastian “ Baste ” Duterte .
Gonzalez also believes the right man will come along for Adarna .
“ Prayers lang ‘ yan . Totoo . Good things happen to good people . Lagi ko namang sinasabi sa kanya na ‘ You ’ re a good person . It will come to you . Huwag ka masyadong atat . Mag-study ka muna diyan ng calculus tapos turuan mo ako after ,’” she said in jest .
“ Wish ko talaga kay Ellen is makita na rin niya ‘ yung lalaki para sa kanya . As a girl , ‘ yun naman ang pangarap namin ,” she added .
In a previous interview , Adarna said that while she is open to dating and meeting new people , she doesn ’ t want to have a relationship until she hits 30 next year .
“ Hindi pa ako ready for a relationship . Enjoy-in ko muna iyong last year ko sa 20s . Kasi magti-30 na ako next year ,” she shared .
After she parted ways
with Duterte , Adarna has been romantically linked to actor John Lloyd Cruz . The actress , however , was quick to refute such rumors .
“ Si Lloydie , he ’ s good friends with Norman , who is also one of my best friends . Kaya nagkasama kami sa Ilocos , and si Beauty din . ‘ Yung pumunta doon is really just close friends ,” she said .
Asked what is she looking for a guy , Adarna said : “ Siyempre gwapo , matangkad , loyal , mabait , thoughtful , ‘ yung hinahayaan lang ako , hindi seloso , mayaman . Lahat naman gusto ‘ yan . ‘ Yun naman ang dream guy mo talaga .” ●
