2nd Job and Career Fair 2017: A Resounding Success!

n August 18, 2017, the Multicultural Helping House Society (MHHS) held its second Job and Career
Fair from 10:00am to 2:00pm with over one hundred job seekers from a diverse group of people -
different ethnicities and age groups who showed up to meet with prospective employers. There were
24 exhibitors in areas of healthcare, trades and skills (e.g. piping industries and landscaping); hospitality and
tourism, retail, airport services, production line, food and beverage participated in the event. Six (6) service
providers attended the event who also shared program information on career and education upgrading.
Mr. Tomas Avendano, President and CEO of MHHS expressed that the job fair was successful with a good
turnout of employers and jobseekers. He added “this event
was a demonstration that our organization is able to
successfully connect employers with service providers in the
neighbourhood and in nearby communities”. The Hon. MLA
Michael Lee, stopped in to show his support for the community
event and took time to speak with job seekers, employers and
staff. Michael Lee stressed that we as members of the
community have a responsibility to spread the culture of
inclusion as well as boosting programs that make employment
100% accessible to new immigrants. He pointed out the
importance of employment leading to a stronger economy.
Thus, having this job fair was one of the best ways to connect
jobs and jobseekers.

way to connect with job seekers,” noting that about 85% of
candidates were prepared as they “knew what types of j
