12 Philippine Showbiz Today August 22 - September 7, 2017 Ogie Alcasid releases new album “Nakakalokal” is not just another album but a dream project for hit songwriter and singer Ogie Alcasid. After all, it’s his first CD as a Kapamilya. “Nakakalokal” is produced and released under Star Music. The 10 tracks are backed up by the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra. It was also his long-time dream to record an album with an orchestra and now that dream has become a reality. “I’ve never had so much fun doing a project and I hope the public enjoys the outcome,” Ogie revealed. The album features new orchestral versions of his hit songs “Kailangan Ko’y IKaw,” “Ikaw Lamang,” “Ikaw Ang Pangarap” (theme song of “Lobo”), “Pangako,” “Hanggang Ngayon” and “Kailangan Kita.” Completing the tracks are six new compositions of Ogie: “Di Na Muli,” “Di Ka Pababayaan,” “Akala Ko,” “IKaw Ang Tanging Pag-ibig Ko” and the title track. By the way, Ogie is celebrating his birthday with a special concert also titled “Nakakalokal” to be held at the Kia Theater on Aug. 25. Also performing is his daughter Leila, who’s out to make a name in the local entertainment world. Ogie is happy his daughter is showing great promise not only as a singer but as a songwriter as well. With Lara Maigue as voice coach, Leila is now recording with Marion Aunor, whose talent Ogie greatly admires. ● - Crispina Martinez-Belen,MB Music director Gerard Salonga and the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra recently held a special concert at the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) School of Design and Arts (SDA) Theater. Salonga and the orchestra performed pieces by classical genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Filipino musician Ryan Cayabyab, and contemporary composer John Williams, plus choice arrangements from Benilde students. The concert was likewise attended by resident-children from nearby barangays, as part of the Music Production Department’s outreach project. A joint venture of ABS-CBN and First Philippine Holdings, the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra is composed of 40 musicians under Salonga’s direction, with the guidance of executive director Mickey Munoz. The orchestra was created to connect and reinstate symphonic music into the lives of the Filipino people and its younger generation. Salonga s a multi-awarded musical director, conductor, arranger, and multi-platinum record producer. He has collaborated with some of Asia’s finest musical artists including his sister Lea Salonga, Regine Velasquez, Wang Leehom, Elisa Chan, and Cecile Licad.
