State Deputy Arcie Lim addressed at the
Knights of Columbus 106th State AGM and Convention
The Knights of Columbus of
the British Columbia Columbia
and Yukon State Council held
their 106th AGM and Convention
on April 28 – 30, 2017 at the
Sheraton Hotel in Richmond.
The theme of the convention,
“Missionary Spirit”, was chosen
by Most Reverend, Bishop Ken
Nowakowski, State Chaplain for
BC & Yukon. In his address to the
delegates, State Deputy Arcie Lim
said, “We are called to evangelize
and with that, we must instill
in our hearts the spirit of being
missionaries. As brother knights,
we are in a good position to
participate in this mission as we
travel in our journey in carrying out
our charitable works. Our Holy
Father, Pope Francis stated that we
have to open our hearts to those
living on the outermost fringes of
society. We have to listen to their
cries as if it were our own. What
could be a better way than for
us to be instrumental in sharing
God’s word. Having a missionary
spirit is an invitation to love, to
show kindness and unselfish
generosity. It can transform our
lives, our relationships, our ability
to serve and our willingness to
embrace our objectives. We must
continue to work hard to meet the
needs and expectations of many
people”.
In his annual report on the
State of the Jurisdiction, Lim
stated that the BC & Yukon State
Council is in number 1 position
in Canada and number 9 Order
wide, in terms of membership
growth. He also reported; “Last
year, we donated one container
of wheelchairs to Vietnam and
I was privileged to lead the
distribution of another container
of wheelchairs in the Philippines.
The feeling of being able to give
the gift of mobility to people who
are in most need is something
beyond words can describe”.
The Knights of Columbus
in BC & Yukon led the Order in
per capita giving. Last year, total
charitable contributions reached
more than $3.8 million dollars.
They are also a big supporter
of Special Olympics. A special
cheque presentation was made to
a Special Olympics representative
during the awards ceremony at
the convention. Their Pennies for
