Philippine Showbiz Today July 22 - August 7, 2016 Fil-Am hairstylist gives free haircuts to the homeless Filipino-American hairstylist Mark Bustos has been giving back to the community by giving free haircuts. A successful hairstylist in America to the rich and the famous, Mark has always dedicated his time to give free haircuts to homeless like those living in poverty in the Philippines. “Back in 2012 was the first time I did haircut for the less fortunate,” he shared in an interview with CNN Philippines. He further relayed that his trips to developing countries has sparked the urge for him to give back. “The first time I was exposed to poverty in a developing country, I always knew I wanted to give back somehow.” During his trip in the Philippines, Mark gave free haircuts to homeless children. “In America, in New York City where I’m from it’s very rare to see children living out on the streets so coming to countries like this it’s sad to see that there are children all over living out [in] the streets,” he said. According to Mark, haircuts have always had a positive impact on people. “Whether you’re homeless or a billionaire, it’s just that their shoulders rise up and you could see a little bit change in their smiles even they’re shy.” Mark has been documenting his journey on his Instagram account as a hairstylist to the homeless. Haircuts, dinner, and ice cream all shared with love- for the children living in the cemetery. Yes, they live in the cemetery, many without parents. Yes, those concrete blocks are tombs. He plays the character of Andrei Alegre, son of matriarch Gloria Alegre, as portrayed by Sylvia Sanchez, who will suffer from memory loss. According to Matt, this role is different from the other gay roles he did in the past in the projects like Must Date The Playboy and Pare Mahal Mo Raw Ako. “Sobrang hirap at saka at the same time, sobrang challenging for me kasi sobrang iba siya sa lahat ng mga ginawa kong gay roles before. Kasi, like before, ‘yung mga ginawa ko for romantic comedy. So ito talaga, heavy drama so talagang kailangan mag-immersion kayo,” he said. Matt said he has no problem being given gay roles. He said, “Para sa akin, sobrang challenge accepted kasi sa akin, walang maliit o malaking trabaho talaga. Kung ano ‘yung ibigay, mas grabe ‘yung pag perform. Para sa akin, lahat blessing.” Aside from being an actor, Matt is also a loving husband and father. According to him, management is key in order to be able to juggle responsibilities - G.A Lastrilla, push well.• 7
