a global celebration from Asia Pacific to

The Twitter accounts for Eat Bulaga,
Maine Mendoza and Alden Richards have
grown significantly along with the popu-
larity of the TV show and love couple over
the past 12 months:
@EatBulaga: added over 1.84 million
followers (from 880,000 to 2.72 million fol-
lowers)
@mainedcm: added 3.93 million fol-
lowers (from 6,000 to 3.94 million followers)
@aldenrichards02: added 2.37 million
followers (from 1.3 million to 3.67 million
followers)

ter has witnessed the rise of AlDub from
a local sensation to a global social TV
phenomenon that shows the Filipino cul-
ture to the world. As a cultural milestone,
#ALDUB1stAnniversary is a celebration
not just for the couple and their fans, but
also for Twitter that has been the home of
AlDub Nation all around the world since
the beginning of their love story,“ said

The AlDub love team was acciden-
tally discovered at the Juan for All, All for
Juan segment of the noon time television
show Eat Bulaga where Maine portrayed
the character of a housemaid and Alden
as himself.
Due to the strong chemistry between
the two main characters, their budding
romance caught the attention of the au-
dience and the first ever ‘kalyeserye’ be-
gan. Filipinos immediately went to Twitter
to express their appreciation for the new
TV love couple. Recently, AlDub emoji,
the first-ever in Southeast Asia, domi-
nates with 6.6M anniv tweets.
Well-known local personalities and
even foreign celebrities congratulated the
love team through their Tweets, including
a Tweet from US musician Bryan_White,
who sang AlDub’s theme song “God
Gave Me You.”•
