MERCURY DRUG SETS
UP MORE DIABETES
CARE CORNERS
To help address the increasing incidence of
diabetes in the country and aid potential
and confirmed diabetics in managing their
conditions, Mercury Drug launched another first
in pharmacy care last year – the Get Well at
Mercury Drug Diabetes Care Corner.
The Get Well at Mercury Drug Diabetes Care
Corner is a diabetes specialty corner with a
complete assortment of products such as sugar-
free food items, clinical nutrition products,
monitoring devices like glucometers, strips,
lancets and other related products necessary for
diabetes care.
YOU CAN’T SPELL BIG
WITHOUT BI
The rise of Business Intelligence (BI) to help
make your business BIG
The concept of a Business Intelligence (BI)
System dates back to 1958 when—in response
to the need to maximize the value from the
mass of information relevant in business—
researcher Hans Peter
Luhn
envisioned
the application of
automation techniques.
The use of a BI System
has evolved through
different applications
in automation—from
collecting data, to
providing actionable
insights essential in
decision-making—
towards driving value through operational
efficiency, inventory management, sales
intelligence,
performance
management,
and—particularly relevant in today’s retail
landscape—improving customer experience.
While there is much value from the use of BI
Systems especially in the realm of operational
efficiency and improving customer experience,
such has only been tapped by a number of the
rather larger players in the Philippine retail
industry. This is understandably so, given that BI

It also provides counseling service to patients
and their families, conducted by Mercury
Drug pharmacists who have undergone
comprehensive training to equip them with better
understanding of diabetes and medications. This
service ensures that patients are able to achieve
optimal medication outcomes for effective
diabetes management. Personal assistance on
how to use monitoring devices is also provided
whenever requested.
Initially available in Makati City Ayala Center
Glorietta 3, the Diabetes Care Corner is now in
place in Kalookan Monumento, Shangri-la Plaza,
Greenhills Shoppesville, Trinoma Mall, Retiro
Mayon, Commonwealth Ever Gotesco, Robinsons
Galleria, Taguig Market Market, Q-Plaza Cainta
and BGC 32nd Street in Metro Manila.
In other parts of the country, the specialty corner
is set up in Cabanatuan Zulueta, San Fernando
Pampanga San Jose JASA, Cebu Avila, Cebu
La Consolacion, Cebu Ayala Corporate Center,
Cagayan de Oro Limketkai and Cagayan T. Neri.
Before 2019 ends, more Diabetes Corners will
be operational in other Mercury Drug stores
nationwide.
The Get Well at Mercury Drug Diabetes Care
Corner is made possible through the support
and cooperation of the Philippine Society
of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism
(PSEDM), the Philippine Pharmacists Association
(PPhA) and Merck Sharpe and Dohme (MSD).
systems typically come with costs—especially
from the players from overseas—that are rather
too high for both acquisition and operation.
The good news though is that new technologies
are now being developed locally that are
particularly geared towards addressing our
specific needs relevant to the Philippine
business and market context, making such more
accessible in both realms of acquisition and
operational costs.
With the rise of digital
transformation,
now is the perfect
time to explore
and harness the
potential of Business
Intelligence through
local
technology
companies
such
as Retailgate, by
leveraging on the
power of Artificial
Intelligence. By simply utilizing your existing
technology infrastructure such as your CCTVs
in-store, you can now begin to better track and
analyze the intricacies of customer behavior
and experience, and identify actionable insights
to improve your store operations towards
providing an improved customer experience.
The question we need to ask ourselves now is:
How will we leverage on the rise of Business
Intelligence solutions in this era of digital
transformation?

WILCON DEPOT OPENS THIRD
BRANCH IN ILOILO
Wilcon Depot, the
country’s leading home
improvement
and
construction
supply
retailer, opened its
third branch in Iloilo,
and 53rd in the country
last April 26, 2019.
The
ribbon-cutting
ceremony was led by
Wilcon
SEVP-Chief
Operating
Officer
and PRA President
Rosemarie Bosch-Ong together with other Wilcon’s valued suppliers and
Iloilo’s local government officials.
“We envision that every Filipino home is built and filled with top-notch
home building products from Wilcon. We will stay true to our commitment
to every Filipino homeowner and builder to be their constant partner in
building, improving, and refining their homes,” Ms. Rosemarie Ong said
during the grand opening.
The unique electronics deliver superior detection
whereby the sensors are capable of detecting
the smallest of labels – including those used on
cosmetics products, in either the current aisle
width setup or wider.
“We designed the blueprint for the very first EAS
antenna and it’s exciting to be the one ushering
in a new era for the technology. The revolutionary
electronics that we have developed allow
for the seamless transfer of data to the cloud,
which ultimately helps stores to make informed
business decisions, based on analytics,” Simon
Edgar, Senior Director of Product Management
at Checkpoint Systems, said.

The newest branch located in Brgy. Bolong Este, Santa Barbara, has a total
sales area of over 12,000 square meters accommodating thousands of
strong and reliable local and international brands in the market, arranged
in an organized and clutter-free manner inside an air-conditioned store.
NEO pushes the capabilities of RF-based EAS
solutions, boosting the standard detection range
by up to 35%, so that retailers can increase the
distance between each antenna to 2.7metres.
A first for the retail industry, NEO-enabled
antennas will feature wireless Bluetooth
connectivity. This means that stores will no
longer have to connect antennas via underfloor
cabling – a costly and time-consuming process.
Remote connectivity ensures that the EAS
investment is maximized, with Checkpoint
providing a live system health check and online
service support, while alarm-related data can be
synchronized to the cloud to provide real-time
actionable insights.
