than 14,700 new teachers
registered in 2014 with Yoga
Alliance, industry leaders
estimate that just as many
people completed teacher
training but didn’t register
as teachers, which means
about 30,000 took teacher
training in 2014. The ranks
of yoga teachers are growing
faster than yoga students.
Yoga teacher training in
America has grown as fast
as Elon Musk’s Hyperloop
and has no signs of slowing
down. The number of newly
registered yoga teachers in
the US rose by an average
of 18% a year from 2008
to 2014, according to Yoga
Alliance. That is 3x as fast as
the 6% growth rate for yoga

Million people doing yoga
in the United States then
about 91% of the overall
population haven’t been

Students spend about
US$ 16 Billion annually on
classes, gear, equipment,
up from US$ 10 Billion in
2012. 75% of Americans
now believe that yoga is

Yoga practitioners report
having a strong sense
of mental clarity, being
physically strong, having
good balance, and majority
of them give back to their
communities. But yogis
also know how to love
themselves, that’s why they
spend their extra income
on yoga classes, attend
yoga workshops, buy a new
Manduka yoga mat, wear
that new colorful Athleta
yoga pants, go to yoga
retreats in Tulum or Bali
because yoga makes them
feel good. The more people
that practice yoga the better
the world will be.•
