THE TALL ORDER Integrity and honesty in government?

Why do we elect people to
government offices with honesty
and integrity? Is it because our
Constitution says so? ‘Article XI of
the 1987 Constitution says public
office is a public trust. Public officers
must at all times be accountable to
the people, serve them with utmost
responsibility, integrity, loyalty and
efficiency, act with patriotism and
justice and lead modest lives.’ In
addition, candidates must also
have a high standard of morality;
for example, officials should not
be cheating on their wives or living
with their mistresses.

Pero, me kandidato ba now or the
previous polls that are/were honest
or with pristine records in their
lives? Or, meron bang kandidato
now na hindi nagsisinungaling sa
mga plataporma at pangakong
sinasabi sa mga botante? Lahat
ng kandidatong tumatakbo for
public service nuon at ngayon
ay makasalanan, nagyayabang,
nagsisinungaling or one way or
another ay pulos pangako lang
ang sinasambit sa mga botante,
dahil, para lang silang mga
nakakatuwang…
