Nicole Mojica of Richmond wins jiu-jitsu
competition in California
Her name is Nicole Mojica,
and she is six years old. The Filipino-
Canadian won gold in the recent IBJJF
Pankids 2019 jiu-jitsu tournament
held in Anaheim, California. It is one
of the biggest tournaments for kids
jiu-jitsu and competitors come from
all over the world to show their skills,
technique and A game to be named
the world champion in their division.
Nicole
started
jiu-jitsu
when she was 4 1/2 years old for
self defence. Like all other activities,
she spent time practicing in the gym
and at home as jiu-jitsu needs focus,
determination and discipline to do
the techniques. Nicole first joined the
Jiu-jitsu Ohana tournament in 2017
at the Olympic Oval in Richmond
and won her first bronze medal. Since
then, Nicole was more determined to
be a top competitor. At a young age,
she knew the value of hard work and
dedication.
Nicole saw the first IBJJF
Pankids tournament in YouTube while
training and noted to us “Dad, my
dream is to become a world champion
when I grow up.” Little did she know
that her dreams will come true faster
than she anticipated. Last November,
her coaches invited her to join the
IBJJF Pankids 2019. Nicole practiced
hard with her team leading to the
competition. After winning the gold,
her points of view was changed and
we couldn’t even be prouder. “Dad, it
doesn’t matter if you win gold, you try
your best in whatever you do.”
All together, Nicole has nine
golds, four silvers and four bronzes,
and she continues to train and guides
younger kids at Apex Mix Martial Arts
in Richmond.

PAL Interclub is played over 4
Cebu courses
In a very rare instance, this year’s
staging of the prestigious Philippine
Airlines Interclub championships
will be played over four courses in
the Queen City.
Canlubang will be shooting for
yet another title in the 55-and-over
division by bringing back the multi-
titled Tommy Manotoc, and the
Sugar Barons will be contending
with perennial rival Luisita in two
layouts that are very similar in
character.
Alta Vista and Club Filipino
de Cebu in Danao will be the site
of Senior action, with both courses
carved out of mountains where
precision off the tees and accurate
approaches will be the premium.
The Barons won coming from
behind in Bacolod last year even
with Manotoc not in the team for
the second straight year because of
family commitments in the United
States.
Manila Southwoods will be
shooting to equal an Interclub
record fifth Championship Division
title in Men’s play starting Mar. 6.
Cebu Country Club, that
exclusive layout in the heart of
the city, and Mactan, an air force
layout very near the city’s modern
international airport, will be the host
clubs for the centerpiece division.
The CCC and Mactan are
traditional courses, with CCC again
to determine the champion owing
to its difficulty.
This year’s Interclub is sponsored
by Radio Mindanao Network, Asian
Air Safari, and Vanguard Radio
Network. Also extending support
