QUOTE : THERE SHOULD BE LAUGHTER AFTER PAIN.THERE SHOULD BE SUNSHINE AFTER RAIN JAGMEET SINGH WINS BURNABY SOUTH BY-ELECTION JAGMEET SINGH WINS BURN- ABY SOUTH BY-ELECTION BURNABY – On Monday night, the people of Burnaby South elected NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh to represent them in Ottawa. During the campaign, people in Burn- aby South expressed their disappointment in Justin Trudeau’s Liberal govern- ment and elected Singh to push for the help Canadi- ans need now. “From the Paradise Papers to SNC-Lavalin, it’s obvious that Justin Trudeau and his Liberal government are not on your side — he’s focused on favours for his friends. The people in Burnaby South were clear that they need help now. Help to afford a roof over their head and to afford their medications,” said Singh. “It’s time to make life more affordable for regular folks, instead of more affordable for billionaires.” For decades, everyday families have been paying more and more, while Conservative and Liberal govern- ments tell Canadians they can’t afford to improve the things they need most. Jagmeet Singh and New Democrats believe it doesn’t have to be this way. We can invest in better health care, in making sure this generation and the next has a more affordable life - a job, a home, secure retirement, in saving our clean air and water and in making our economy more sustainable. “The rich corporations have always had someone on their side — and you’ve been paying for it. It’s time to finally have someone on your side,” added Singh. “I will bring this fight for you to Ottawa. Thanks to a vote of confidence from the people of Burnaby South, today isn’t the end of a campaign – it’s the start of one.” [email protected] Arnell Ignacio resigns from OWWA Television host and comedian Arnell Ignacio said Tuesday he has resigned from his post at the Over- seas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA). Ignacio, who was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as deputy executive director V last year, tendered his resignation 2 weeks ago. He, however, refused to disclose the reason for his resignation and in- stead said he would hold a press brief- ing later this week. Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III has accepted his resignation and noted that Ignacio stated personal reasons for leaving the OWWA. Ignacio, whose full name is Ar- naldo Arevalo Ignacio, was one of Duterte’s supporters from the enter- tainment industry for his presidential bid in 2016. He was previously tapped by Duterte as assistant vice-president for the community relations and services department of the Philippine Amuse- ment and Gaming Corporation (PAG- COR). In a statement Wednesday, Malacañang said Ignacio has “proven his competence in public service in his current position, as well as during his tenure at the PAGCOR.” “He has intimated his de- sire to pursue other endeavors. We wish him luck [in the] new path he will traverse,” Presi- dential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said. “While the President has yet to formally accept Mr. Ignacio’s resignation, we rec- ognize as well as thank him for his contributions to the Filipino people.” (Report from Lynda Jumilla and Zen Hernandez, ABS-CBN News) WWW.PHILIPPINEASIANNEWSTODAY.COM
