AWARD-WINNING FILIPINA POP
SINGER FROM JAPAN
ANALYN ALMERINO, TO PERFORM IN
RICHMOND ON FEB 9:
YOUR CHANCE TO WIN FREE TICKETS
Analyn Almerino is just 19, but
she has already taken first place
in two nationally televised singing
competitions in Japan. On Feb 9, she
will be giving a solo concert in her
North American debut, at the Cultural
Centre in Richmond, BC.
Born in the Philippines, Analyn’s
family moved to Japan when she was
six, and she has lived there ever since.
Japanese is her strongest language,
naturally, but she also sings in English
and Tagalog.
At the age of just 14, she
prevailed over 6,000 competitors to
win first price in the Nihon Television
national singing competition. She
then donated the 300,000 yen prize
to survivors of Typhoon Yolanda, a
major disaster in the Philippines at
the time.
Analyn also sang on her own
weekly television show in Japan,
and she has already released two
original songs in English on Spotify
and Apple Music. She is signed
to Richmond BC-based music
production company, Rufus Lin
Productions.
Analyn has many fans in Japan,
as can be seen from her many
YouTube videos, and her Vancouver-
area fans are buying tickets for the
concert at $10 online at eventbrite.
ca.

Philippine Asian News Today will each

Mission: Possible
Western Canada’s largest
pop-up escape room comes
to Surrey
SURREY, BC – Families and
residents across Metro Vancouver are
invited to tackle Mission: Possible,
Western Canada’s largest family-
friendly, pop-up escape room, hosted
of by the City of Surrey. On February 9
and 10, Surrey Civic Plaza and Surrey
City Hall will be transformed into a
physical and educational adventure.
The mission, should you choose to
accept it, is to gather a team of friends
or family to strategize and solve a
series of puzzles and riddles that will
pave the way to building a smarter
city.
“Smart cities are reshaping what
the future is going to look like and it’s
important to include communities
in the dialogue. We are proud to
host events like Mission: Impossible
to engage with residents about
what a smart city is and hear their
perspectives,” says Mayor McCallum.
This one-hour escape room
experience is based around the
premise of a collision at a high traffic
intersection. Brain teasers will guide
participants through physical and
intellectual challenges, including a
high-tech research lab and a zone on
hazardous behaviours. Three levels of
difficulty provide a challenge for any
participant, from school-aged children
to adults.
As a bonus, the experience
includes a ride on ELA, the first
public Electric Autonomous Shuttle
in Canada, on the plaza. This
autonomous shuttle uses over 250
sensors to navigate through traffic
safely and is already being deployed in
many jurisdictions around the world.
Mission: Possible is an initiative
of Surrey and Vancouver’s joint
bid for the Smart Cities Challenge
collaboration, a national digital
technology competition from the
Government of Canada. The two cities
have been selected as one of the five
finalists for the top $50 million prize
and participation in this event will
help in Surrey and Vancouver’s final
proposal for the Challenge.
