Filipina CPA receives CPABC’s Distinguished Service Award
by CPABC with additional information from Julian Ysmael & Shailene Caparas
Ms. Thelma Siglos, CPA, CA,
received the Distinguished Service
Award from the Chartered Professional
Accountants of British Columbia
(CPABC) on February 21, 2018 at the
Fairmont Waterfront Hotel, Vancouver,
BC in recognition for her remarkable
commitment and dedication to the
accounting profession and to the
Filipino-Canadian community.
Ms. Siglos is the 1972 Certified
Public Accountant Board Examination
Topnotcher (1st place) in the Philippines
and the 1st Filipino who became a
Chartered Accountant (now Chartered
Professional Accountant) by affiliation
– a precedent for a Filipino CPA.
Because of her excellent academic
achievement
and
remarkable
professional experience, she was only
required to take the Handbook Exam
plus the tax and law courses. She did
not have to take the CA’s Uniform
Evaluation (now Common Final)
Examination. Currently, membership
by affiliation in CPABC is available
only for CPA applicants from other
Canadian provincial/territorial CPA
bodies or Bermuda.
Ms. Siglos was born in Davao
City and grew up in Manila. She
is a financial integrity consultant,

investigations since 2014 after she
retired from her career with the BC
Public Service Agency.
She has shared her passion and
skills with the accounting profession
and her community throughout her
career. A dedicated volunteer, Ms.
Siglos contributed to the accounting
profession’s mandate to protect the
public interest. She was a member
of her provincial legacy body’s
Professional
Conduct
Enquiry
Committee from 2005 to 2010 and
of its Rulings Committee from 2008
to 2010, chairing the former in 2009- Thelma Siglos receiving the award.
