November 16 - 30, 2018 PHILIPPINE ASIAN NEWS TODAY “BASURA NYO, HAHAKUTIN KO” Surrey Tree Lighting Festival Attracts Thousands Newly lit tree will illuminate Civic Plaza through the New Year Surrey, BC – Thousands of attendees filled Surrey’s Civic Plaza to enjoy the annual Tree Lighting Festival, presented by Coast Capital Savings, at Surrey’s City Hall this past Saturday. Mayor Doug McCallum, together with City Council, announced the beginning of the holiday season by flipping the switch at 6:30pm to light the 60-foot Christmas Tree that will illuminate Civic Plaza until Thursday, January 3, 2019. “Our Tree Lighting Festival is one of Surrey’s most cherished holiday traditions,” said Mayor Doug McCallum. “We are proud to host this annual family event where residents can come together to celebrate the holiday season. With thousands of visitors joining us from all over the Lower Mainland, this year’s event has been another resounding success.” Presented by Coast Capital Savings, visitors enjoyed a concert with over 19 performances, headlined by local urban R&B and gospel performer, Warren Dean Flandez. Additional highlights included a Ferris wheel, Berry-go-round ride, inflatables, family activities, road hockey games, cookie decorating, children’s crafts and a holiday market with over 20 local vendors. “Supporting events like the City of Surrey’s Tree Lighting Festival demonstrates Coast Capital Savings’ commitment to helping build richer futures for youth in our communities,” said Maureen Young, Director of Community Leadership, Coast Capital Savings. “We always enjoy being a part of bringing the Surrey community together to celebrate the holiday season and we are already looking forward to next year’s event.” Visit www.surrey.ca/treelighting for more information.
