ARTS AND CULTURE 22 PHILIPPINE ASIAN NEWS TODAY November 1 - 15, 2018 Alex was made to believe she’d end up with Piolo in last soap ALESSANDRA De Rossi wrote the story of her new movie, “Through Night & Day,” where she’s also the lead star and a co-producer along with Viva Films. The film was partly shot in Iceland and she says she nearly gave up shooting there because it’s so cold. “Malamig din sa Sapporo, Japan when we shot ‘Kita Kita’ there, pero mas grabe sa Iceland,” she says. “Well, hindi naman siguro tatawaging Iceland ang lugar kundi nga talagang kasing lamig ng ice ang klima nila.” Alex says she’ll focus on doing movies now after she was disillusioned by the last soap she did, “Since I Found You,” with ABS-CBN. She says originally, she was told that leading man Piolo Pascual will end up with her in the story. But what happened is that Piolo’s leading lady became Arci Muñoz. “Umasa talaga ako kasi when it was offered to me, ako talaga ang leading lady. You know me, two years akong walang show kasi lahat ng roles offered to me, tinatanggihan ko. Finally, may role na gusto ko. Kasi leading lady, ‘bago ‘to, hmm try nga natin.’ ‘Yun, hindi nga ganun ang nangyari. Three weeks before the ending, sinabi sa’king hindi ako ang leading lady. So sumama ang loob ko that time, kasi pinaasa ako. “’Sencia na, tao lang po ako. Pero masaya na rin akong natapos ang show kasi gustong-gusto ko ng gawin itong ‘Through Night & Day.’ So okay na rin kasi naghihintay nga sa’kin itong movie na ito at excited na rin akong i-shoot siya. Sa ngayon, rest muna ako sa mga soap. At least, nagawa ko itong pelikulang gusto kong gawin and I’m really very proud of it. Kung bakit, malalaman nyo kapag pinanood nyo ang ‘Through Night & Day.’” (M. Bautista, Malaya) ‘Music and Laughter’ to push through The sudden passing of OPM legend Rico J. Puno came as a major shock to many, and mourned his demise. Puno, regarded as one of the prime movers of OPM, wowed and left us with a line-up of popular anthems such as “Kapalaran,” “Buhat,” “Macho Gwapito,” “Lupa,” “May Bukas Pa,” “Ang Tao’y Marupok,” “Magkasuyo Buong Gabi” and “You and I.” When singer Tosca Puno was asked about the concert of her father on November 23 at the Theatre at Solaire, she said, “I know my Papa will say –the show must go on!” It was announced recently that “Music and Laughter: Sana Tatlo ang Puso Ko” with Giselle Sanchez and Marissa Sanchez, will push through to pay tribute to the “Total Entertainer.” Joining the show are Marco Sison, Nonoy Zuniga, Nanette Inventor and Eric Nicolas, with the special participation of Tosca Puno and Rox Puno. Giselle reminisces, “I just love how the audience laugh and fall off their seats from our jokes. Only Rico and I can pull something that naughty and still appear respectable after the show. I am so happy that so many stars have agreed to join this musicale because this is exactly how Rico imagined it to be. He had so many ideas and was so excited about our concert and he told us this will be our biggest concert in 2018. Rico, we promise not to let you down. This will still be our biggest concert in 2018 and you are the biggest part of it. We love you Corics.” Marissa promises, “The show is going to be filled with the spirit of Kuya Rico J as if he is (still) alive. It will definitely be a happy and enjoyable show like how he wants it. I will miss his uniqueness; his brand of green comedy is something that he gets away sweetly without being grossly offensive.” Expect the unexpected on November 23 at the Theatre at Solaire. (Malaya) GMA’s new Soap ‘Cain at Abel’ Dingdong Dantes and Dennis Trillo have worked together before in “Twin Hearts” (2003), “Etheria” (2005) and “Endless Love” (2010). In all these shows, it’s Dingdong who played the bigger role. But now, they’re together again after five years in “Cain at Abel” and they both play the title roles. The show was launched in a grand press con at Prime Hotel last Tuesday night. “I’m happy to be working with Dennis again,” says Dingdong. “I know matagal na ang konsepto ng project na ito sa GMA and other actors were considered to play the lead roles. But I think hinihintay talaga ang tamang panahon para kami ni Dennis ang gumanap na Cain at Abel.” “Pareho kaming excited to work together again,” says Dennis. “It’s an honor for me to be working with the ‘Kapuso Primetime King.’ Ang saya ko lang na nagkaroon ako ng ganitong project na hindi lang drama kundi may action din.” For starters, they both agreed to do their own stunts. Dennis is shown jumping from a bridge into a murky river down below, while Dingdong is seen in an action scene chasing someone and jumping from a rooftop into the ground below. “Ayaw naming dayain ang mga eksena ng aksiyon,” says Dennis. “Kaya kami mismo ang gumawa nito.” “Cain and Abel” has two top directors, Mark Reyes and Don Michael Perez. Both of them are amazed at the great chemistry of Dingdong and Dennis on screen. “They both give electrifying performances in their dramatic scenes,” says Direk Mark. WWW.PHILIPPINEASIANNEWSTODAY.COM “Pareho silang napakahusay at very intense sa acting na pinakikita nila sa bawat eksena.” “And they’re both very dedicated in their determination na mapaganda talaga ang show kaya wala silang takot sa action scenes,” says Direk Don. “Marami silang pahahangain dito.” Dingdong adds that the timing is just perfect for him and Dennis to do “Cain at Abel” at this time. “Pareho kami ni Dennis na nasa GMA for almost 20 years na. We’ve known each other that long at na-develop ang friendship namin through the years. Ang dami na naming experiences kung saan nabuo yung pagkakaibigan namin even off cam. And now that we’re playing brothers, we need that certain level of being really comfortable with each other and I think na-achieve naman natin yun para rito sa ‘Cain at Abel.’”(Malaya)
