Richmond ’ s 2017 Lulu Series : Art in the City line-up announced
Richmond , BC – Can graffiti bring a community together ? How are museums and galleries adapting to today ’ s audiences ? Can having a conversation with a stranger or eating a popsicle made of foraged ingredients affect social change ? These are just some of the questions that the speakers in this year ’ s Lulu Series : Art in the City will answer .
The Lulu Series : Art in the City explores the relationship between art and our urban environment . Artists , planning experts and design enthusiasts from across Metro Vancouver are invited to attend three inspirational evening talks in Richmond :
• Thursday , March 9 : David Vertesi , the Executive Director of the new Vancouver Mural Festival will discuss how he successfully mobilized more than 150 businesses , organizations and artists to work cooperatively to create
a unique public celebration . His talk will be preceded by a short performance by beatboxer , Shamik .
• Thursday , April 6 : Architect John Patkau will share examples of his designs and talk about how art galleries and museums designs are shifting their practices to meet the demands of a 21st century audience . His talk will be preceded by a short performance by Richmondbased sitar player , Ali Azumi .
• Thursday , May 4 : Calgary-based interdisciplinary artist duo , Eric & Mia will share the different ways in which they create community through their unique art practice . Their talk will be preceded by a short performance by spoken word poet , Dia Davina .
All talks will be held at Richmond City Hall Council Chambers , located at 6911 No . 3 Road at 7:00 p . m . They are free to the public and seating is limited . To reserve your seats , please email lulu @ richmond . ca .
