December 1-15, 2017 Life etc. by Jun Cordero It was a couple of months ago in October yet when my wife had me bring the Christmas stuff down from the garage attic storage. We were going away on a more than a month-long vacation so she reckoned we’ll get a good head start in decorating once we get back from leave. Wrong. We came back totally spent and exhausted with jetlag that all we did for a week was sleep. By the time we could readjust, December was already around the cor- ner. And so were our grand- kids who, having their own decorations already up in their own homes, were now ever so restless to redecorate our living room for the season. Every day our little ea- ger minions called, bugging and begging us when they could come to start decorat- ing. We were only able to suc- cessfully put them off for a cou- ple of weeks but finally we had to succumb to the pressure. PHILIPPINE ASIAN NEWS TODAY 17 Joy of the season I had to drag and force my lazy body to clean the house and prepare for our little elves. Funny, I told my wife, why do I have to clean the house when they would just practically mess it up in no time anyways. And so, they came and boxes and cases of deco- rations being ripped opened, ornaments dropping and crashing, little guys falling off the ladder, basically cha- os all over our living room. I was resigned to just watching our little elves do what their best at - turning our house upside down. But despite all these there was something different with the chaos - we were actually en- joying every bit of it. The little voices singing carols, giggling, dancing, screaming and jos- tling while trying to hang or- naments that would drop and break. It was just so magical. In time, the decora- tions were up and surpris- ingly they did a good job. Un- like the previous years they now were able to reach the top of the tree, which sim- ply reminded us that our ba- bies are actually growing up. At the end of the day when everyone left my wife and I sat back, glaring at the magic that our grandkids did. It was a messy aftermath but we still can feel the joy that was there. There was a bit of sadness as we realize that it won’t be long when these our little grandkids would not be little anymore, and who knows how many more Christmases will they come and decorate our tree. Don’t think about it for now, I cheered up my wife. Let’s enjoy the moment and hopefully we’ll be around a lit- tle bit longer to see them grow up. When the time comes we’re sure they’ll be enjoying Christmas in their own way, with kids of their own, and lovely memories of their Nono and Nona specially when they see their own Christmas tree. A bit of advice and en- couragement to all - let your little ones take care of your Christmas, and don’t fret about the mess. Life’s just too short!
