UFCABC Hosts Despedida for DepCon Mandap
The United Filipino
Canadian Associations of BC
held a despedida for Deputy
Consul
General
Anton
Mandap and his family, wife
MaryAnn and their children,
at the Fraserview Church in
Richmond. The party was
attended by many of the
member-organizations of the
UFCABC and their respective
members.
Several organizations
gave a tribute to DepCon
Mandap. Arcie Lim spoke for
the Circulo Pampangueno,
Rosette Correa spoke for the
UPAABC, Amado Mercado
spoke for his family being
relatives of the Mandaps,
and councillor Chak Kwong
Au from Richmond also spoke
in behalf of Mayor Brodie
and the city of Richmond,
who consider Mandap a true
friend. Joel Castillo, president
of UFCABC spoke in behalf
of the organization, and
gave the Mandap’s gifts as a
token of their appreciation.
Most of the speakers’ tributes
thanked DepCon Mandap for
being a conduit in uniting
the Filipinos and Filipino
organizations in Vancouver,
and by being present in most,
if not all, the activities of
each organization. Two staff
members of the Philippine
Consulate rendered two
songs to entertain the crowd
as well, while Shishir Inocalla,
of Arte Marcial Filipina and
proponent of arnis and other
Philippine martial arts in
Vancouver,
demonstrated
the art of arnis in its many
forms, as he also thanked
the Department of Foreign
Affairs for supporting him on
his project to bring Philippine
Martial Arts to Canada and to
the world.
Consul General Neil
Frank Ferrer gave a speech
relating how their team in the
Consulate introduced many
projects that helped Filipinos
as far as Calgary and Red
Deer, while Deputy Consul
Leo Ausan gave his words
of goodbye and inspiration
through the song, “Life’s a
Constant Change” by Jose
Mari Chan.
DepCon Mandap gave
his thank you speech, jokingly
likening the evening and the
tributes to him as eulogies,
and with a grateful heart
thanked everyone for their
support and their love. He told
the crowd that his dedicated
service to his countrymen
was one that truly marked his
six years in Vancouver, and
that he is honoured to have
served his kababayans on this
assignment.
The evening was capped
off by dancing and picture
taking with the Mandap s. The
program was hosted by Tribu
Productions Cliff Belgica,
and the food was lovingly
