officers of the Catanduanes
International
Association,
Vancouver Chapter were
inducted into office during
their Pre-Christmas Dinner
Dance and Induction Program
held at the Immaculate
Conception Church Hall on
Saturday evening, November
26, 2016.

Abundo, Pastor of Immaculate

inducted the following new
officers : Arnel Angel Tabo,
president; Pio Ocol, vicepresident; Maribel Abundo

The
Catanduanes
International
Association,
Vancouver
Chapter
was
organized in 1997 by former
residents of the island province
of Catanduanes to participate
in the Medical Mission
sponsored by the association
every three years that had
given free medical treatments
and medicines to thousands
of indigent patients in the
province. It has also joined
other activities of the local
Filipino community like the
Philippine Independence Day
celebrations and raising funds
for the victims of calamities in
the Philippines.
Arnel Angel Tabo, the
new president from Virac,
Catanduanes obtained his
B.S. degree in Electrical
Engineering
from
the
Technological Institute of
the Philippines in Manila and
worked as safety engineer
for the Light Rail Transit
(LRT) before immigrating
to Canada in 2001. In BC,
he received a Certificate of
Qualification as Electrician,
Red Seal and a Certificate of
Qualification as Fourth Power
Engineer. He is employed at
the Coca-Cola Refreshments
Canada in Richmond BC. He
also works on the side as an
independent financial advisor

In his inaugural address,
Tabo endorsed the chapter’s
full commitment to serve
the marginalized people in
Catanduanes,
a
province
that
has
been
beset
by frequent
n a t u r a l
calamities
and
faced
with the lack
of economic
opportunities.
He appealed
for continued
support
to
the Medical
M i s s i o n
composed
of
doctors,
n u r s e s
and
other
volunteers
from different
chapters
in the USA
and Canada
serving poor
patients from
different
towns. They
provide assistance to povertystricken people with little or
no access to health services.
The dinner program
was opened with an invocation
by Rev. Fr. Jun Reyes, assistant
Pastor of St, Judes’ Parish in
Vancouver and the singing
of the national anthems of
Canada a and the Philippines
led by Rosette Correa, a
broadcast and print journalist
who covered the event for
Philippine Asian News Today.
Fr. Abundo stressed
the importance of the Medical
Mission and commended the
Vancouver Chapter for its
active participation in raising
funds annually and sending
volunteers for the project
every three years. He urged
the new officers to continue
the good work of the chapter
with more active involvement

to
thank members
and supporters of
the CIA Vancouver
Chapter for their
cooperation
and
assistance
that
resulted
in
growing
community
support to the Medical Mission
and other
projects during his term.
He has a new role as regional
vice-president for Western
Canada of the Catanduanes
International Association Inc.
with head office in San Diego,
California.
