Immigrant Professionals Conference will
provide strategies for career success
(Vancouver BC) A 2010
study1
from Statistics
Canada found that 22% of
foreign-educated immigrants
in BC were working in the
regulated profession for
which they had trained,
compared to 62% of those
born in Canada. With decades
of experience in assisting
newcomers and immigrants
to find work, MOSAIC has
developed
expertise
in
helping those clients able
to find work in their fields of
study, as well as helping the
remainder to seek alternative
career paths.
On November 5th,
MOSAIC is hosting a full day
conference to share strategies
and advice for career
success.
The Immigrant
Professionals
Conference
is free for registrants and
is expected to attract the
maximum capacity of 450
attendees.
Abraham Asrat, Manager
of
Employer
Relations,
said that newcomers and
immigrants
are
often
surprised at how difficult it is
to find work which correlates
t o their education and skills.
“It’s both disappointing and
frustrating for clients to
learn that their training and
experience might not be
recognized in Canada, and
that they might not be able
to get back into the same
field that they left behind.
We work hard to keep their
spirits up and the most
effective way to do that is by
empowering them to help
themselves, which includes
learning about the labour
market and related fields of
work, additional training,
understanding of Canadian
workplace practices and
cultures, etc.”
The
conference
includes
panels
with
successful
immigrants
as well as HR experts,
industry professionals and
career coaches. Breakout
sessions
include
the
following: Improving Your
Cultural Communication in
the Canadian Workplace;
First Steps to Becoming
an Entrepreneur; Using
Technology to Sell Your
Skills; and The Art of Selling
Yourself.
The event takes place
from
8:30am-4:30pm
on Saturday, November
5, 2016 at the
Sheraton Guildford
Hotel, 15269 104
Avenue in Surrey.
The conference is
funded by MOSAIC,
