B . C . Premier Christy Clark opens trade office in Manila
B . C . Premier Christy Clark has returned from a trade mission to Asia where she launched B . C .’ s new trade and investment office in the Philippines , promoted B . C .’ s LNG sector , and supported a delegation of more than 80 business representatives from a wide cross section of key B . C . Jobs Plan sectors .
“ This mission had two priorities – expanding B . C .’ s trade presence in Southeast Asia and strengthening B . C .’ s trade relationships in existing priority markets in South Korea and Japan ,” said Clark . “ The businessto-business announcements that took place on this mission demonstrate Asia ’ s growing interest in B . C . clean technology , information and communications technology and international education , helping to drive economic growth and job creation at home in B . C .”
Clark announced the official opening of B . C .’ s 12th trade and investment representative office , located in Manila , the Philippines , which is part of commitments in the BC Jobs Plan and Raising our Game in Asia :
The BC Jobs Plan Trade Strategy to expand B . C .’ s trade presence into key markets .
The Manila office gives British Columbia unprecedented on-theground access to the Southeast Asian market , opening doors for new trade
and investment between British Columbia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations ( ASEAN ) region .
B . C .’ s liquefied natural gas ( LNG ) sector will benefit from the renewal of an agreement between the B . C . government and the Japan
Oil , Gas and Metals National Corporation ( JOGMEC ) on energy co-operation and engagement . JOGMEC is investing in four LNG and natural gas projects under development in the province – the Cordova Embayment , the Cutbank Ridge Partnership , Pacific NorthWest LNG and
Aurora LNG .
The trade mission involved 17 business announcements and signings , several of which were in the technology and international education sectors .

The Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver joins the entire Filipino community in British Columbia , Yukon and the Northwest Territories in celebrating the 118 th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence .
We remember and honor the sacrifices of our forefathers who secured the birth of our nation .
We also take this opportunity to recognize our strong and vibrant relations with Canada in many areas of concern , be it peace and security , trade and investment , human resources , development assistance and cultural and educational exchanges . Thus , we continue a tradition which we have started : celebrating June as Philippines-Canada Friendship Month .
This year , we mark yet another milestone : the 60 th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver , the very first Philippine foreign service establishment in the whole of Canada .
Sixty years of our Consulate ’ s existence in this city represents as many years of partnership with and service to the Filipino-Canadian community . We take this opportunity to recognize the “ pioneers ” at both our Consulate and in the community , as well as encourage them to continue to contribute towards further strengthening the bonds of friendship between Canada and the Philippines .
As we turn another page in our country ’ s history , we take pride in the achievements we have made in the past years as a nation . Much has been done in accelerating our economic growth and prosperity , in strengthening our democratic institutions and in raising our profile in the community of nations .
We look forward towards sustaining these gains and towards greater partnership with Canada . In this regard , we are grateful to the Government of British Columbia for opening its Trade and Investment Office in Manila last month , the very first such office in Southeast Asia .
This year ’ s Philippine Independence Day theme “ Kalayaan 2016 : Pagkakaisa , Pagaambagan at Pagsulong ” exhorts us to remain united , steadfast and engaged towards securing our country ’ s progress .
On that note , I wish everyone a joyous , memorable and meaningful month-long celebration of all these events .
