Science allows us to create, discover and learn. There are so many possibilities and opportunities to discover something new and fasinating!
In this issue, you will get detailed and in-depth descriptions, as well as how-to guides on how to preform your very own bacterial transformation lab!
This lab explains the specifics behind the experiment, such as: what plasmids are, their structures, and how this is all relevant to the procedure and ultimate goal of this lab. Also, some relevant works of scientists that made history are mentioned. As well as how bacterial transformation works, and other methods used to successfully yield newly transformed bacteria will also be discussed.
The solutions used to make this lab successful are included with various calculations and their specific properties that help to grow the bacteria. There are other values that will help you to produce your own in-house transformation solutions to use and compare it to the store-bought transformation solutions.
The procedure of the lab can be found on pages 10 and 11, where you will find all the details as to how the scientists from this issue followed through with the experiment to yield modified bacteria!
All of the data collected such as: the number of bacterial colonies, in which petri dish, and whether it glowed or not was recorded. As well as the variable experiment that was conducted simultaneously with the controlled experiment (in-house VS store-bought transformation solutions). This data was interpreted to compare to the nature of the chromophoric structure of the plasmid to the results which you can find on pages 12 and13 (why or why not it was not a successful experiment).
"Science allows us to create discover and learn."
If you enjoyed this lab, you can find additional experimental variables to substitute for the variable used in this issue- in house transformation solution.
