"Lucas," she says between sniffles, "you stay away from people who make you feel like you're difficult to love. Immediately leave those who make you feel worthless. Do not tolerate those who try to belittle you. Life is too short and abrupt for you to allow yourself to be surrounded by this toxicity. The world is so beautiful, too beautiful and too filled with oppurtunity to allow yourself to be trapped."

Lucas wonders if Kit has finally made the revelation to dispose of the useless people she keeps in her life, if she will finally let go of all of the things that make her so unhappy...or if this was just another one of her rambles, or if this is talk for the fleeting rage she always seems to harbor. He prays it is the first rather than the latter but he has learned how to deal with disappointment.

Lucas looks up to see misty eyes glancing back at him.

"You know that I love you...right Lucas?" She whispers more to reassure herself than to comfort him.

He nods, careful not fall out of his place. He knows what his role is in Kit's universe...he is not the sun but a star, a molecular star hidden in the corner of her galaxy. He knows the consequences of when a star tries to become the sun. A supernova. One colossal bang. A minor disruption in outer space. Then silence. Then loneliness. Then you get forgotten. Then you are gone forever.

It is a quarter past four in the morning and the two are as silent as they are sleepless.. Lucas knows that whatever problem that brought Kit today would resolve itself eventually in the upcoming days, weeks, months, years. The nature of human dilemmas are that they are oftentimes temporary.

"Drink your tea, Kit. and let's go to bed."
