CENTRE ICE RADIO

Welcome to my first Centre Ice Column. The show has been running
for a little while now and we've had some fun, sometimes it can
throw up a curveball too, (more on that shortly). The radio show is on
Tuesday evenings from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and is broadcast on
www.peterboroughcityradio.co.uk. Although we cover the Phantoms,
Islanders, Penguins and Peterborough Rec teams, we also try to
look out and around the EPL with features and interviews with
notables such as Andre Payette and this week with Wayne Scholes,
the Telford Tigers owner. We spoke about his connection to the
Tigers, his time as their Stick Boy, we also covered the “interesting”
times of their mid-season recruiting drive, and then he threw it – the
curve ball. In Britain we’re used to small steps, ambition limited by
budget because “that’s how we’ve always done it”. Not for Wayne.
He’s signed a development deal with an East Coast Hockey League
team, a league whose cast offs are stand out imports to the Elite
League, but that’s not all, he revealed that he’s about to sign a deal
with an NHL team too! He wants to bring some NHL shine to the
EPL with the match night experience. This stunned me, but on
reflection, I feel a bit smug. This is something we’ve already started
thanks to the hard work of people like Carrie, Lee, Matt and many
others.
