Food Battle
What does your school lunch look like?
The kids who DON’T buy lunch at school are healthier and they perform better academ-
ically. A 2008 study found that children who bought lunch at school were at an increased risk for being overweight. The study also
found that stu-
dents with a
higher consump-
tion of foods rich i in omega-3 fatty
acids, fruits, and
vegetables per-
formed better on a
standardized
literacy assessment,
independent of
socio-economic
factors.

You walk into the cafeteria as hungry as a lion hoping to find a plate of turkey and dressing with mashed potatoes and gravy and a side of green beans.
But instead there are chunks of dry pink meat and a white glob with watered down gravy and green beans from the planet barf “eww!” That's just a normal day at the Hermes/Intermediate Cafeteria. Maybe with major changes kids will have an enjoyable lunch.
One thing that really gets on peoples nerves is how the older kids get better food then younger kids . Now-a-days the only meals the kids get are the hot meal, sandwich, and salad, and you can't even get seconds on sandwiches and salads. While we are eating monstrous meals our older siblings get milkshakes with their lunch card. Even the parents had burger bars and
soft served ice
cream.
In addition, the
cafeteria always
serves the same old
boring food over
and over again.
When you're stuck
eating pizza and
chicken nuggets it
never expands your
tastes. Another way
to look at it is that
when you eat all the
same things you will
never get to know what
the foods in other cultures
are.
Last but not least, the cafeteria needs to be run better. Sometimes they don't announce what the food is and that leaves kids wondering what the meals is and change the menu unexpectedly. One of the worse things is it takes forever to get the kids food, sometimes kids have to wait until the lunch period is over when food is given out.
Furthermore, the students who like the school lunches would think otherwise.
They would say, “The school can't control what happens. For example, the delivery truck could be late or the teachers might not pass out menus.” In Addition, things unexpectedly happen they should be more prepared. Kids also shouldn’t be punished because the teachers forgot to do lunch account.
If they don't change something soon they are going to have less money because kids will bring their lunches from now on. These are all the reasons the Hermes/Intermediate cafeteria should change their lunches for the benefit of everyone.
