Raising up independent distribution

Where did 2022 go ? As we prepare to meet in Dallas for the NAILBA annual meeting I have a few personal items . I want to start by saying thank you . Thank you to the membership for allowing me to serve you and this association . It has been a true honor . Thank you to the incredible staff of NAILBA for all that you do to assist the board and all you do for the membership . The voice of independent distribution is as strong as ever .
Securing the future
NAILBA has had a big year . The merger with Finseca became official on September 1st of this year ! Merging NAILBA with Finseca has given independent distribution a voice at a larger table so that our views will be heard . We increased our presence on Finseca ’ s board and ensured that our annual meeting , our signature event , will live on and prosper into the future . NAILBA ’ s future , as an integral part of the insurance distribution landscape , is secured .
NAILBA is continuing to grow in the area of professional development as well . The NAILBA Certified Case Manager course has been wildly successful and the next areas inside of our agencies that we can target for education and development are currently being identified . Stay tuned for more on this and other exciting professional development opportunities from NAILBA .
As we look towards 2023 , many of us are starting to plan how we can grow our agencies while adding deeper and stickier relationships with our reps . This current issue of Perspectives covers these topics within Minding the 3Rs — renewals , retention , and recruitment .
Ways to grow
How can we mind the 3Rs for growth ? Consider adding a new line of business that your agency hasn ’ t represented in the past . Or , partnering with a friendly competitor to offer marketing assistance to your reps for an even friendlier revenue share . Or possibly , bringing LTC , DI or another new line of business to strengthen your existing bond with your producers . Making additional product and planning recommendations can enhance the stature of your agency in the minds of your clients . Additionally , it keeps them from calling a competitor for a product you don ’ t currently have .
Life insurance is how most of our agencies got their start . Offering impaired risk underwriting to our local career agents is the foundation that most offices were built on . Many offices are finding that there is a need for additional revenue sources . We are all painfully aware of the aging agent population . The younger demographics seem to be attracted to the planning arena , and they seek out partners that can assist them with multiple planning opportunities . As we gather in Dallas in November and the calendar turns to 2023 , I hope that you consider some of the ideas in this issue to assist your year end planning .
