Has the profession accelerated its adoption of technology over this year ? Some say we have moved into the second phase of technology and innovation . Others feel the industry is still stuck in reverse . We checked in with the current class of ID 20 Award winners to get their take on how far we have progressed in technology and innovation .
Mike Pepe : If nothing else , I believe the past two years have shown us as an industry that the way forward is digital . We have to be flexible and willing to meet people where they are , and where they are , is online .
That ’ s not to say that we should all be investing in no-contact technology solutions for every piece of the life insurance purchase journey , because there will almost certainly always be a need for human interaction due to the nature of selling life insurance . But as much as we can , we should be looking to streamline and simplify processes to improve the buyer ’ s experience .
Meeting on their terms
Jeff Levin : Technology and the internet have enabled professionals to meet their prospects and clients where they want to be met : in the comfort of their own home , while vacationing , or even in the advisor ’ s office – simply not face-to-face . They have enabled us to use our time more efficiently , cutting down on travel and at this time , saving on fuel costs .
Perhaps most importantly , technology and the internet have increased capacity for carriers and speed for both producers and consumers when it comes to actually doing business . Whether it be in the form of electronic applications , online medical records , expedited underwriting , or electronic policy issuance , we can provide needed protection more effectively , efficiently , and quickly .
Human connectivity vs . work efficiency
Krish Krishnan : The world has changed dramatically where email has become a hygiene factor , and instant messaging , video calls and virtual symposiums have become the norm in daily business and social interactions .
Our employees are now hired through job postings and their backgrounds verified through a cloud-based service . We transact with clients and prospects largely over web meetings with a rare handshake at a conference . In summary , we are able to pack a lot more punch to the day because of technology . Some of us are able to go on long lunches or extended vacations knowing that we can stay connected through technology !
