Along the secluded roads between Lake Gardens and the National Mosque lies one of
Kuala Lumpur’s hidden gems: the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia, or most commonly
referred to as the IAMM. In a booming city brimming with shopping malls and
restaurants, the IAMM is an established institution that is frequently visited amongst
tourists and locals, pioneering the museum scene in Malaysia. With a minimal and
modern interior, it houses some of the most ancient artefacts, dating back to the 16th
century. Be prepared to spend the day there as it is difficult not to be swept away into
the rich history the museum offers, from the time of the renowned Taj Mahal’s
construction, to the Ottoman Empire’s extensive ruling over the Middle East. Although it
is located at the heart of the city, the IAMM feels like a serene oasis where one is
immersed into the rich history of the Islamic world.
