How an algorithim can Prevent hiv

HIV is an extremely prevalent disease that is not talked about a lot- more than two million people have it between the ages of 13 to 24. Social workers began taking an approach, to reduce this number in homeless youth, by talking to these children directly and encouraging them to talk about HIV with their friends.

However, they do not want their campaign to seem forced. Therefore, some computer scientists have actually created an algorithm that can analyze the relationships and social groups of these youth, and find out which person is the best to talk to their friends about HIV- so now social workers can talk to that certain individual. The algorithm is a form of artificial intelligence and it predicts the child with the strongest, most extensive social connections that would make them strong candidates for them to be youth advocates for talking about HIV. This is an example of how CS can be used in healthcare and social work.
