spirit and determination. Gladys Louise Brown maintained an “A” average
throughout her high school years and garnered the title of Valedictorian of the
1958 graduated class of Ballard-Hudson High School with more than 200 students in the class.
Education was integral to the person Gladys was. She encouraged everyone she
knew to become skilled so that they would be prepared to meet whatever challenge was ahead. This was not a trite statement to her; “If you can conceive it,
and believe it, then you can achieve it.” Gladys entered Talladega College in
the fall of 1958 and was graduated Magna Cum Laude in the spring of 1962,
conferred with the Bachelor of Arts in Biology with minors in Chemistry and
Secondary Education. While she was a student at Talladega College, Gladys was
initiated into the Chi Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated
in 1959.
1958 Ballard-Hudson High School graduation
Driven by an insatiable need to be the best she could be professionally, Gladys
went on to earn two advanced degrees. She received the Master of Science
Education (with emphasis in Earth Science) in 1965 from Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. And, in 1968 she received the Master of Science
in Biochemistry from Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. Gladys continued
her thirst for knowledge and achievement as she did post-graduate studies and
became a licensed real estate broker. She completed the full course of “Elements
of Real Estate Selling” in 1972 at the Detroit School of Real Estate. Gladys
believed in gaining top billing in her every undertaking, thus she attained licenses
from the Alabama Association of Realtors in 1984 and the National Association
of Realtors in 1985.
