HISTORY OF ROLEX WATCHES
The history of Rolex is inextricably linked to the visionary spirit of Hans Wilsdorf , its founder . In 1905 , at the age of 24 , Wilsdorf founded a London company that specialized in the distribution of timepieces . Soon , he began to dream of a watch that could be worn on the wrist . Wristwatches were not very precise at the time , but Wilsdorf foresaw that they could become not only elegant but also reliable .
In 1910 , Rolex became the first wristwatch in the world to receive the Swiss Certificate of Chronometric Precision . Four years later , Kew Observatory in Great Britain awarded a Rolex wristwatch a ‘ Class A ’ precision certificate . Up to that point , Class A had been reserved for marine chronometers . From that day on , the name Rolex has been synonymous with precision . In 1919 Rolex made the move to Geneva , Switzerland , from which point all Rolex timepieces have been Swiss-made and manufactured .
