5 . NEW YORK CITY – NY
Iconic holiday sights and sounds abound in the big apple during this special time of year ! Make sure to be there for the lighting of the Rockefeller Christmas Tree , then hop onto the Rink at Rockefeller center for some majestic outdoor skating . If it ’ s a little too crowded , there ’ s also a big rink in Central Park next to the Central Park Zoo . Head inside the nearby David H . Koch Theater and let the New York City Ballet company whisk you away to the Land of the Sweets with their stirring rendition of Tchaikovsky ’ s The Nutcracker .

Vermont is famous for its great skiing and snowboarding and there ’ s no finer example than the Stowe Mountain Resort . You ’ ll find two mountains , a vertical drop , 40 miles of runs , and activities for the whole family including dog sledding , sleigh riding , snowshoeing , ice skating , and snowmobiling .

Routinely named one of the best Christmas towns in the USA year after year , Rhinebeck is a picturesque hamlet home to the oldest inn in the nation and a famous candy store called Samuel ’ s Sweet Shop , co-owned by actor Paul Rudd . In December , giant puppets , elaborate light shows , musicians , and theatre productions descend on the town for its annual Sinterklaas festival to honor the town ’ s Dutch roots .

Ok , it ’ s not actually the North Pole . It ’ s actually the Adirondacks ! The entire town of Wilmington transforms into Santa ’ s workshop village complete with reindeer , elves , and even the big man himself ! Caroling , nativity scenes , and lots of shopping await and you can even stop by the local post office to send a letter to someone direct from the North Pole with official postage !
