a photographer to meet me at the fountain and explained the plan . I know my fiancé well when it comes to pictures of us . She would want to ask a random person to take the pictures so we could avoid the “ selfie ” and get a good picture .
The plan with the photographer was that she would pretend to be a tourist like anyone else at the fountain , and I would walk up to her and ask her to take the pictures with my phone . I also know that my fiancé likes to take pictures from multiple angles , so during one of the angle changes , I would take my jacket off and drop to a knee . That is when she would switch from my phone to the camera that she had on hand .
When it came time for our trip , the weather forecast was terrible . Our carriage ride was planned for Saturday evening , and the forecast called for rain all day Saturday . This started to make me nervous because I was not sure if the carriage company would push back my reservation to Sunday when the weather was going to be better . I called the carriage company and the photographer , and they were so gracious to make this special day happen for me that they booked me for the next day . We were having an amazing ride on Sunday , seeing the historic side of the city , going down cobblestone pathways , looking at buildings and houses hundreds of years old , and learning about the architecture from the early days of Charleston .
As we were nearing the end of the ride , Lauren realized she did not have her wallet on her and started to panic because she thought she left it at the last place we were at . Instead of taking our time at the Pineapple Water Fountain to snap pictures as planned , she wanted to get the photos and head back to where we were to look for it . We got off the carriage and she walked at a pace I ’ d never seen her walk before . I knew I had to slow her down because the photographer was standing discreetly at a spot where she would take a few pictures of us getting off the carriage and then was going to meet us at the fountain .
Lauren started to walk ahead of me , so I caught up to her , put my arm around her , and told her to enjoy the moment . This slowed her down and gave the photographer enough time to get to the fountain so I could ask a “ random ” person to take a few pictures of us . We arrived at the Pineapple Water Fountain , I saw the photographer out of the corner of my eye , and I was thinking in my head , “ She made it !” Lauren was ready for the photos , so I turned to the “ tourist / photographer ” and asked her if she could use my phone to take a few pictures .
We found a beautiful spot in front of the fountain and got a few pictures in . It was time for the angle change and for me to take my jacket off which was the signal for the photographer to switch from my phone to her camera . I got back to my mark and went down on a knee . Lauren was in shock , and I have no idea what I started to say to her . She was emotional and excited all at the same time and wasn ’ t even looking at the ring . I had asked her to marry me , and I think I had to ask twice because she didn ’ t respond to me the first time . She glanced down at the ring , I saw a big smile on her face , and she said “ Yes !”
