Mr Sheldrick sadly passed away 6 months later, in 1977, at the age of 57, and left an enduring legacy in Tsavo. He stands out even today, as one of Africa’s most famous and proficient pioneer National Park Wardens of all time.

Dr. Dame Daphne Sheldrick was born in
Kenya and was brought up in the midst of animals, both domestic and wild. Dame Sheldrick has established herself as an international authority on the rearing of wild creatures and the first to successfully hand rear a newborn orphaned African elephant.
Dame Sheldrick and her family have worked and lived in the Nairobi National Park, and her involvement with wildlife has spanned a lifetime.
She is now an international authority recognized on the raising of wild creatures and is also the first to have perfected the milk formula and necessary husbandry for infant milk-dependent Rhinos and Elephants.
Dame Sheldrick’s life-long experience with wild habitats has been a key to her success. She has mastered the skills of animal psychology and the behavioral characteristics of various species.
