HOMEOPATHY

A colleague and friend asked me

to write about

managing symptoms

until cure”!

In my opinion she picked up on a good point about homeopathy. It is about managing symptoms; the compilation of which has one or multiple diagnosis.

Let’s figure out the essence of diagnosis. Let’s go back in time 3000 years or so then fast forward to today to look at the progression of knowledge and vocabulary about human health. Obviously, early humans observed illness in a person who was not feeling well, without knowing or having the vocabulary to say “sinusitis”, or any other disease for that matter. Later they started describing these issues and conditions like headache, fever, or shortness of breath. As we started to get to know our environment more it became clear that certain conditions could create a certain symptom or even a group of symptoms that occur together.

What was our experience 1500 years ago with food poisoning?

Feeling sick, body aches or joint pains, decreased or lack of appetite, nausea or vomiting, abdominal cramping, diarrhea, fever? We wondered “how does this happen?”. Or, why was a relapsing fever and chills sometimes associated with runny nose and headaches and at other times with pain in the pelvis or a growth on our skin.

Sometimes I wish I had a time machine and could go back in time and meet certain key people in the lineage of healing arts and observe key events leading to the discovery of any substance that helped with illness.

A Sweeter Choice
