Stopping Poachers

In Gabon

Operation Albacore

Operation Albacore has ended for 2016 and it was an incredible success.

The campaign began on April 15th with the arrival of the Sea Shepherd ship Bob Barker in the territorial waters of Gabon at the invitation of the government of Gabon. The campaign ended onSeptember 15th after five months of successful interventions against illegal fishing activities in the Gabonese waters off the West coast of Africa.

It was an ambitious experiment with Sea Shepherd partnering with the Gabonese Navy to patrol Gabonese waters to uphold Gabon’s laws protecting their territorial waters from illegal and unregulated fishing.

And for five months, the Bob Barker patrolled with a crew of 44 Sea Shepherd volunteers from 13 different nations, seven marines of the Gabonese Navy and three members of the Gabonese Ministry of Fisheries.
