That’s why we’re pleased that the Environmental Protection Agency recently announced, after significant pressure from over 100 groups, including Earthjustice, that it will finally consider requiring chemical manufacturers and processors to report the chemical substances and mixtures and fracking products. We urge the agency to act quickly.

OBSTACLES

What’s one of the biggest obstacles you face as an organization?

Right now, what keeps me up at night is the polluter industry attack on our fundamental right to use the courts. Earthjustice was built on the idea that citizens have a right to go to court to enforce environmental laws when the government can’t or won’t. We helped establish that fundamental right in the 1970's, laying the foundation for modern environmental law. We are now defending that right against attacks in Congress.

INSPIRED TO FIGHT

Earthjustice has become what it is today because of people like you and people who truly care. What creates the drive to continue and to fight those immense battles?

People who work at Earthjustice are, by nature, optimists. We can’t win every battle, but our court victories add to our confidence that we can make progress through strategic use of the courts.

Of course, that’s not to say that winning these battles is easy! Many of these fights have formidable foes and often last for many years. Our work on the Roadless Area Conservation Rule, which protects wild national forests and grasslands from new road building, logging and development, is a perfect example.
