In order to educate, inspire and empower individuals worldwide, we need to provide the tools for them to engage. What are the tools you / your organization are offering for people to be part of the solution to plastic pollution?

Earlier this year we revised our mission statement to focus on empowering citizens to become leaders in combatting the global health crisis of plastic pollution. We need to grow our base of informed, activated people to help drive a global demand for more sustainable systems. To engage people, and provide them with ways to get involved, we have developed a few tools, and are currently working on a toolkit to support our microbeads action campaign.

Additionally, we have educational tools – a solutions kit designed both for tabling events and educators, with curriculum, visuals, and actual plastic ocean samples for people to share the issue of plastic pollution. We have also developed several research tools for citizen scientists – equipment and simple protocols for sailors to be able to collect data from oceans and lakes, contributing to a growing body of research on plastic pollution. Interested citizens, scientists, and sailors frequently contact us wanting to contribute in some way – we provide them with concrete tools to survey plastic pollution and report back. All of these tools support our overarching mission of inspiring leaders to join us in our global fight to stop plastic pollution from fouling the planet.
