and adding that is not just Al Riwaq that
has made this possible, its also the era and
with the assistance of social media that
has made all of this possible. “We have
managed to evolve. And that is the most
important thing. And maybe I was the most
courageous person to try new things and
because of that many other people tried,
and many groups came out of Al Riwaq,
and we did a lot of charity work - we used
art for a good reason”, Bayan says. She
adds that with everyone project or event
they held, there was always a concept they
worked with and developed to try and
bring people together under one umbrella.
As Al Riwaq closed its doors in March,
the gallery held an goodbye event in true
Al Riwaq manner, where various artists and
visitors were invited to paint on the walls of
Al Riwaq one last time, as live music played
outside and once again the streets of Block
338 were brought to life through means
of art and creativity. As for the future, “the
sky is the limit”, Bayan says and adds that
she would like to continue working with
young artists through collaborative efforts
to provide another platform for their work.
“I feel very proud and happy of all the
work done, it was genuine towards Bahrain
and it was genuine towards creativity
and we have managed to put traces into
many people’s life and thats fair enough.
And I am very thankful to God for that.”
Though Al Riwaq may no longer be a part
of Block 338’s scenery, it will always be a
part of the memory of the place and will
always be remembered as the place where
the creativity in all its forms was brought
together under one roof, and artists and
visitors alike were active part responsible
for the ever evolving image of today’s Block
338.
