As the convex matured, it presented
me with new challenged. My paintings
entered a new phase. The circle became
a motif, one that is clearly open to further
elaboration. Hence in 2014, the circle has
become a hole in the curved metallic and
matte surface. It was the beginning of a
new dimension, the Hybrids.
What would you say are some of the
challenges when creating your Hybrids
within the series of Les Roses de
Bagatelle?
Every work from any series had to be
perfectly balanced, carefully produced and
self-contained The same goes with the
Bagatelle series, although I have to source
a variety of rose blossoms in different
stages of bloom and ensure that are
accurately reproduced.
Who are some of the artists whose work
inspires or has inspired you in the past the
most?
There are many great artists throughout
the history of art that I admire. From the
Renaissance to the Impressionist, from
the modernist to the contemporary - each
period has produced significant artists.
