I
t is hard to imagine the culture of Bahrain without a strong artistic presence.
From seeing the modern Bahraini art movement as early as the 1950’s and the
first ever art exhibition taking place in 1956, the beauty of art and its unmissable
impact on the culture of Bahrain is visible throughout the country, and Bahraini
artists are lauded regionally and internationally for shaping the way art is perceived.
The art community is comprised of many talented persons, and one name that stands out
prominently is that of Rashid Al Khalifa. One of Bahrain’s most renowned artists, Rashid
Al Khalifa is inarguably a visionary when it comes to delivering on the canvas. Holding
many notable positions within the art society in Bahrain - such as the honorary President
of Bahrain Arts Society - and earning numerous accolades throughout the years for his
mastery of the arts, Rashid Al Khalifa’s noteworthy works have been showcased throughout
the world and effortlessly capture the beauty and essence of his artistic era. Inspired by
the captivating floral scent of Guerlain, aptly named Les Jardins de Bagatelle, which was,
in turn, inspired by Parc de Bagatelle gardens in Château de Bagatelle, Rashid Al Khalifa
produced his latest series of works. Titled Les Roses de Bagatelle, the series showcases
Rashid Al Khalifa’s interpretation of the garden reverie, and is reminiscent of the lush flora
that envelopes the visitors like a dream from its garden scents, romantic scenery, as well
as the dreamy pastel pink colors of the Château’s walls. A precious and romantic harmony
that Guerlain himself captured in his infamous scent, and described as “an irresistible
melody for a fulfilled and spontaneous woman in love.” Perle Magazine spoke to Rashid
Al Khalifa about his collaboration with Guerlain and how it resulted in the floral, dream-like
series of Les Roses de Bagatelle. The exhibit was displayed in Gallery 21 in Adliya,
bringing the essence of Le Parc de Bagatelle to Bahrain, and will open in Maison Guerlain
in May 6 till June 8, in Paris, France.
