Capital improvements The 2018-19 budget included funding for a number of capital projects, the biggest of which was the renovation of South Elementary School. Following a series of community meetings to determine how to best address the needs of the district’s oldest elementary school, the School Board approved a reno- vation project. Improvements were made to the building’s exterior, windows, flooring, and doors, and other upgrades were completed to give the building a much-deserved makeover. During the 2018-19 school year, the School Board and administration also took steps to address the district’s athletic facility needs by hiring an engineer to perform a study of its fields. Based on the study, the Board agreed to have the engineer move forward with plans to design three synthetic turf fields.* Over the summer of 2019, some of that design work began, and all fields were weeded, seeded and fed to improve quality. Other building improvements included the installation of LED lighting in all buildings, the replacement of high school windows, the replacement of two HVAC units at Perkiomen Valley Middle School East, auditorium upgrades at both middle schools, and the repaving of East’s driveway and parking lot. * A capital campaign, Rally for the Valley, began in the 2019-20 school year to support athletic field improvements. Please see the inserted capital campaign envelope for infor- mation about how you can support this proposal. www.pvsd.org Page 15
