Countless amazing places would be left behind without this signposting
project, which allows people to know where they are and what to find there.
For that reason, ATP (Panama’s Tourism Authority) together with INAC
(National Culture Institute), decided to start up a project in the area.
According to ATP data, the project includes 26 signalizations of outer
spaces, 5 photo spots, 5 directional signposts, distributed pieces of furnitu-
re, and 36 signalizations for tourists across churches nearby.
The signposts are made of steel and protected against UV rays. They
have bilingual information –in English and Spanish- on what places tourists
can go to, emergency numbers, etc.
Churches like Nuestra Señora de la Merced, San Felipe Neri, and others,
were not left behind. Each one of them has 19 plywood walnut-colored pie-
ces of furniture, as well as some bilingual signposts so visitors know the
names of Casco Antiguo churches.
It’s a highly important project since Pope Francis, along with thousands
of pilgrims from abroad will be in Panama in the frame of World Youth Day,
from January 22nd to 27th, 2019.
Gustavo Him, ATP’s CEO affirms that “this new signpost project aims
to provide tourists with the exact location of each landmark, square, street,
avenue, and church.”
Representatives for INAC were in charge of designing signposts, defining
and approving the places where they are going to be installed.
“We analyzed the project and found that it would fulfill an old dream of
the tourist industry. We consider that we can have a well-structured result
because of the type of project we’re developing.” said Antonio Alfaro, chair-
man of Camtur.
