Among tourists and baristas, Casco Antiguo has
been fi lled with unique spaces to enjoy a cup - or
better, several - of the best coffee in Panama, and
each offers a special experience.
T
he highlands of the province of Chiriquí have given Panama
one of its greatest glories: one of the best coffees in the world.
Panamanian grain is an international sensation, and those
who live or visit the isthmus are fortunate enough to be able to taste all
its rich variety. And if there is a cool or romantic place to have a cup of
coffee, it’s the Casco Antiguo, whose stony streets and old houses offer
an atmosphere as charming as the aroma of good espresso.
There are almost a dozen cafes in El Casco, each with its own iden-
tity, menu and exclusive coffee options. Most are on Avenue A and in the
surrounding streets, and are part of the new culinary scene of the area.
Preferred of the locals
The expat community that lives in the area usually prefers the Super
Gourmet, in the Testa House, on Avenue A and behind the Museum of
the Interoceanic Canal; This deli / coffee shop offers the award-winning
Janson coffee (Best of Panama 2016) served to your taste (cappuccino,
macchiato, moccaccino) with soy or almond milk options; Their sweet
and salty empanadas are famous, as are their English muffi ns with ba-
con, chorizo or vegetarian. They serve breakfast all day and also sell
several products made in Panama. Its friendly service in English, Spa-
nish and French makes the public come back again and again.
Such is the case of Dodó Bon Pan Café, in front of the French Pla-
za, in Calle Primera, frequented by the workers of neighboring gover-
nment offi ces. Their coffee is from Rancho Gotta, from Boquete, and
their Café Dodo or Bon Café versions are recommended, each with a
Café Unido
