THE PROPOSAL On May 13th 2014, Carolina and Jon were in Paris and the proposal took place at the top of the dome at Sacré- Cœur in Montmartre. Carolina wasn’ t thrilled about climbing 300 steps up a narrow spiral staircase to get to the top but the view at this high point was well worth the dizziness! The Paris skyline was half lit with rays of the sun after a rain shower and they couldn’ t help but stand there for a half hour admiring its beauty. It was then Jon pulled out a small notebook from his coat pocket. Reading his words about the past, present and future in the setting of a 100 year old basilica made Carolina’ s eyes water and before she knew it, he was on his knees! It was a blur from there( literally, since she couldn’ t see!) and after she said yes she apparently repeatedly asked if that just happened.
THE INSPIRATION We were engaged in Paris and wanted to keep the same theme for the wedding. We visited Hatley castle and fell in love with it instantly( in fact, it was the only venue we looked at!) – the design and décor of the wedding was inspired by the romantic setting of the castle. We pictured soft colours of blush, lots of florals, and touches of gold as the accent colour.
THEIR ADVICE Make sure you have a buffer in case you go over budget – it’ s easy to go over your initial budget! If you are having an outdoor wedding, have a detailed contingency plan for poor weather conditions and make sure there are enough people on the day of the wedding to help out with unexpected changes to your plans. d perfect wedding magazine. com 65
