Q: Does Jeff Leatham, the Rockstar of flowers, have a favourite Rockstar?
A: I am such a music lover. I am a huge
Dolly Parton fan and I love country music. Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, I love Popstars like Whitney Huston, Madonna. Music always moves me and I am constantly listening to music when working. It inspires me and if I am happy while working with flowers then it shows.
Q: When you are not working, which I imagine is not often, what do you like to do? He laughs and replies immediately with an irresistibly sweet chuckle,“ I sleep!”
A: That is my biggest luxury- Sleep!
Someone would say to me, go to the spa, get a massage, No! For me the biggest luxury is to close my eyes and sleep. I love to go on an airplane because I can’ t look at my phone or read my emails. I love to fly because I can turn off my phone and I can’ t use my electronic devices! I find it tiring that because of our work we are attached to the phone all the time. I said to someone the other day that an amazing vacation for me would be to have someone take away my cell phone and computer … but I can have a camera, yes! That would be a beautiful vacation where I wouldn’ t have to check emails or my Instagram account! We are so committed to these machines because it is our connection to our work, money and inspiration. When you think about it, 30 years ago nothing of this existed and it was probably a more beautiful world, but nowadays it helps us.
Floral trend for 2016 There is a huge trend with people going back to classic looking flowers. Those days of ultra-modern looking flowers are not as popular, so classic design and classic colours. Another trend is bright coloured flowers for weddings instead of using just plain white all the time. The Metallics, like rose gold, will still be a big trend. People are starting to spend more money in their weddings, which is good news for designers. Trends are always hard because I think people like me and other designers are setting the trends. Organic, is a big trend: different kinds of greens on the table, not a lot of flowers. A lot more colour.
